Have Wheel, Will Spin!

Yes, it has been awhile since I've blogged! In addition to the Guild, we had our granddaughter here from New York, our daughter moved in with us while her husband is deployed, we have happenings here on our farm, it has been very hot, and it has been super busy! Summer time in the Ozarks and all of it enjoyable!

Earlier this month I sent my husband an e-mail link to a spinning wheel I thought would fit me well as a beginning spinner. It is the Ashford Kiwi, unfinished and needing assembly (www.paradisefibers.net). Well, to my surprise, he bought it for me!! The day it arrived, I had been out running errands with my daughter. We walked into the house and there was Mr. Wonderful, assembling the wheel!! Yipee!! It took a bit longer for him to decide how he wanted to finish it, but it is finally completed. He used a Dutch oil which gives the natural wood a satiny finish and the wheel, because it is made from MDF, is painted white. I wanted to incorporate some unique designs on the wheel itself, possibly things like hexes that are seen on Dutch barns. My husband suggested a spiral pattern but I thought it might make people get sick while watching the wheel spin!

Recently my daughter has joined the Country Heritage Spinning andWeaving Guild and she has rented one of the wheels so that we can spin together. We are having a lot of fun, being able to spend this time together doing something wonderfully creative. I'm sure it won't be long before she has a wheel of her own...maybe after my grandson is born in late September/early October!
